7 reasons lifters coming back from a knee
injury are switching to BKX knee sleeves
instead of sitting out

…and why “just rest it” is the advice that keeps people out of the gym the longest.

“Recovering from a full knee surgery and going back to training – I didn't know this was possible.”

  1. 01
Bear KompleX knee sleeve holding its position through a squat

Keeps the joint warm from the first rep (no more stiff, cold starts)

A knee coming back from injury is slow to warm up and quick to feel unstable. Neoprene holds heat around the joint so you're not spending half the session waiting for it to loosen up.

  2. 02
Cross-section of the Bear KompleX knee sleeve showing thicker neoprene across the front and thinner behind the knee

Contoured compression that supports the joint without locking it (stop choosing between protection and movement)

Thicker neoprene across the front where the joint takes load, thinner behind the knee where you need to bend. You get the reassuring squeeze of a heavy sleeve and still move through a full squat.

  3. 03
Bear KompleX knee sleeves in 5mm and 7mm shown side by side

5mm for rebuilding, 7mm for when you're loading heavy again (a sleeve for each stage of the comeback)

Most brands give you one sleeve for every job. Coming back, you need different support on different days.

5mm: lighter sessions, metcons, rebuilding volume, cooler to wear.

7mm: squats, deadlifts, the first time you put real weight back on the bar.

  4. 04
Bear KompleX knee sleeve being rolled on in one movement, no straps or wrapping

Cut longer and pull-on so you never adjust a knee you're protecting (no wrapping, no velcro, no re-setting mid-set)

Braces loosen at the bottom of a squat. Wraps need re-doing every set. Sleeves pull on once and hold for the whole session. Less fiddling with the joint means more attention on moving well.

  5. 05
Measuring the knee and the calf to choose a Bear KompleX sleeve size

Sized by knee and calf, S–XXL (a fit that still works when the knee isn't the same size it used to be)

Swelling, muscle loss on the injured side, bigger calves — one-measurement sizing gets this wrong constantly. Measure knee and calf, order to the bigger number, and it fits over the leg you have now, not the one you had before.

What they wrote after wearing them

Knee saver, game changer

I'm new to CrossFit and one of the things that kept me from trying it sooner was the shape of my knees. Several years ago I tore my MCL and I have arthritis in both, so lunges and squats were pretty uncomfortable. I bought these and wow — I have full motion because of the compression.

Best fit I've had

I've had a couple of knee sleeves but these are far superior. The feel and material are excellent and they do not loosen up. I can also do more reps and go heavier on the squats. I recommend these over other brands.

Fit, support, no slip

Normally my old sleeves slid continuously and I always had to pull them up. The Bear KompleX are slightly longer so they stayed in place and fit tighter with more support.

Exactly what I needed

I use them for heavy squats and deadlifts. My knees feel much better afterwards and my recovery time seems to be faster.

Questions
Can I wear these while still rehabbing?

Most people do. Sleeves add warmth and compression without restricting how you move, so they work with lighter sessions, accessory work and rebuilding volume, not just heavy lifts. If you're working with a physio or surgeon, follow their guidance on when and how much to load the knee. The sleeve supports that plan; it doesn't replace it.

Sleeve or brace — which is right for getting back to training?

A rigid brace locks the joint and limits range of motion, which is what you want when something needs to be immobilised. A sleeve keeps the knee warm and compressed while letting you move through a full squat. If you've been cleared to train, a sleeve is usually the better fit. If you haven't, ask whoever cleared you.

Will a sleeve make the knee weaker or dependent on support?

No. The sleeve doesn't do the work for you — your muscles still move the load. It adds warmth, compression and a sense of stability so you feel confident enough to keep training, which is what rebuilds strength. Plenty of customers wear them for heavy lifts only and train without them the rest of the time.

5mm or 7mm for recovery?

Start with 5mm if you're rebuilding volume, doing metcons, or want something cooler to wear for a full session. Move to 7mm once you're putting real weight back on the bar and want maximum compression. A lot of people end up with both and switch depending on the day.

Can I wear them all session, or only for heavy lifts?

All session is fine, and for a recovering knee it's often better because the joint stays warm from the first rep to the last. The 5mm is more comfortable for longer wear. The 7mm is built for heavy work and most people pull it on just for the big lifts.

Are they OK for running and metcons?

Yes. Go 5mm — it's thinner, breathes better, and moves with you. 7mm will feel like a lot during a long workout.

How do I measure if one knee is swollen?

Measure around the knee and around the widest part of your calf. Order to whichever measurement lands in the bigger size. If the injured leg is noticeably different from the other, measure that one — it's the leg that needs to fit.

What if they don't help?

30-day refund, no questions asked. Wear them, train in them, and if they're not doing the job, send them back.
