7 reasons CrossFit athletes are switching
their knee sleeves to Bear KompleX
(and not going back)

…sleeves that slip, sleeves that won't fit over your calves, sleeves that are the wrong thickness for the job. Here's the fix.

“Normally my old sleeves slid continuously and I always had to pull them up. The Bear KompleX are slightly longer so they stayed in place and fit tighter with more support.”

Bear KompleX knee sleeve holding its position through a squat

Cut longer through the thigh and calf so they hold their position (no more hitching sleeves up mid-set)

Bear KompleX sleeves are cut longer, and that extra length is what holds them in place. No hitching them back up between sets.

  2. 02
Cross-section of the Bear KompleX knee sleeve showing thicker neoprene across the front and thinner behind the knee

Contoured neoprene that protects the joint and moves with it (stop choosing between the two)

The neoprene is thicker across the front, where the joint takes the load, and thinner behind the knee, where you need to bend. You get the support of a heavy sleeve without the stiffness.

  3. 03
Bear KompleX knee sleeves in 5mm and 7mm shown side by side

5mm and 7mm built for different training (stop buying the wrong sleeve for the job)

Most brands sell you one sleeve and expect it to do every job. Bear KompleX makes two.

7mm is the thick one. Heavy squats, deadlifts, PR attempts. Maximum support and compression.

5mm is thinner and moves better. Metcons, lunges, box jumps, longer sessions. Cooler to train in.

  4. 04
Bear KompleX knee sleeve being rolled on in one movement, no straps or wrapping

Pull-on sleeves that stay put all session (no wrapping, no velcro, no readjusting)

Velcro braces come undone at the bottom of a squat, and knee wraps mean spending more time wrapping than lifting.

Bear KompleX sleeves pull on once. Roll them up to your knee, unroll them over the joint, and that's it for the session. No straps to tighten. Nothing to redo between sets.

  5. 05
Measuring the knee and the calf to choose a Bear KompleX sleeve size

Sized by knee and calf, Small through XX-Large (finally, sleeves that fit over your calves)

Most sleeve sizing only asks about your knee. That's why so many people order the right size, get them home, and can't pull them past their calves.

Bear KompleX runs Small through XX-Large in both thicknesses. Measure your knee and your calf, and order to whichever one lands in the bigger size.

Bear KompleX — a household name for a decade

Not a brand that showed up last quarter.

Bear KompleX has been making functional fitness gear for ten years. Long enough that the founder used to email customers directly with sizing advice — some of those emails still turn up in reviews people left years ago.

What they wrote after wearing them

Knee saver, game changer

I'm new to CrossFit and one of the things that kept me from trying it sooner was the shape of my knees. Several years ago I tore my MCL and I have arthritis in both, so lunges and squats were pretty uncomfortable. I bought these and wow — I have full motion because of the compression.

Best fit I've had

I've had a couple of knee sleeves but these are far superior. The feel and material are excellent and they do not loosen up. I can also do more reps and go heavier on the squats. I recommend these over other brands.

Fit, support, no slip

Normally my old sleeves slid continuously and I always had to pull them up. The Bear KompleX are slightly longer so they stayed in place and fit tighter with more support.

Exactly what I needed

I use them for heavy squats and deadlifts. My knees feel much better afterwards and my recovery time seems to be faster.

Questions
Why do my current sleeves slide down?

Most sleeves are cut too short, so there's nothing above the knee holding them in place. Bear KompleX sleeves run longer through the thigh and calf, which is what keeps them put through a full set.

How are these different from the sleeves I already have?

Three things: they're cut longer so they don't slip, the neoprene is contoured (thicker front, thinner back) so you get support without stiffness, and they're sized by knee and calf so they actually fit over your calves.

Should I get 5mm or 7mm?

7mm if your priority is heavy squats, deadlifts and PR attempts — more support, a bit stiffer. 5mm if you're doing metcons, lunges, box jumps or longer sessions where you want more movement and less heat. Plenty of people end up owning both.

How do I measure for the right size?

Measure around the widest part of your knee, and measure your calf too — the calf is what usually stops a sleeve going on. Order to whichever measurement lands in the larger size.

Are these safe if I'm coming back from surgery?

A sleeve provides compression and warmth, not immobilisation. If you're post-operative, check with your surgeon or physio about when to start loading the joint again — the sleeve supports the training, it doesn't replace their advice.

Will they be too tight at first?

Yes, and that's normal. They're meant to be snug. Roll them halfway, pull them up to the knee, then unroll the rest. They break in over the first few sessions.

Can I wear them for running?

They're built for lifting and functional training. 7mm is too thick and warm for running; 5mm is more manageable for shorter distances, but these aren't a running sleeve.

How do I wash them?

Cold wash, air dry. Let them dry fully between sessions rather than leaving them in your bag.

Are they legal for competition?

[TBC — confirm current USPA / federation approval status before publishing.]

What if they don't fit?

Send them back within 30 days for a refund, no questions asked. If it's a sizing problem rather than a fit problem, measure your knee and your calf and order to whichever lands in the larger size — that solves most of it.
